Question 58. How does the article concerning “life everlasting” comfort you?

Answer: Even now I feel in my heart the beginning of eternal joy, (a) and after this life, I will inherit perfect blessedness, such as no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor human heart imagined—a blessedness in which to praise God forever. (b)

(Scriptural proofs after the fold.)

  • a. 2 Corinthians 5:2-3
  • For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. (2 Corinthians 5:2-4 ESV)

          Romans 14:17

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

  • b. 1 Corinthians 2:9
  • But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him” … .

          John 17:3

And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
