Gas Up: May 1

Gas%20Up%20May%201Here’s what a litre of gas costs at my neighborhood station this week. That’d work out to be $5.14 per U.S. gallon.

Youngest son worked at this gas station last summer. He was following in both his parents footsteps, because my first job was at a Fas Gas station, too, and that’s where I met my husband, who was my co-worker. I’m almost certain they are completely unrelated companies, even though the Fas Gas company I worked for had a similar green and white logo.

The price in 1973 when I pumped gas? A whopping 39.9¢ per gallon. And it was full service; I washed your windows and checked your oil. But it was the summer of the gas shortage, and 39.9¢ was a shockingly high price. It was also the summer of the big grain export to Russia, and there was a constant stream of grain trucks fueling up as they travelled from North Dakota to the port of Duluth.

What are you paying for gas this week? You can let us know in the comments of this post or, if you prefer, you can post the info on your own blog and send me the link.

Rebecca is comparing gas prices this month. As you can see, gas here in middle Tennessee costs around $3.45/gallon. I was lamenting this fact until I followed this link provided by Dorothy that compares US prices to international prices. Yikes!Are...

I just paid $3.77 yesterday at Costco in Oxnard, Calif. It's always at least 10cents cheaper a gallon than at most other stations. I'll take a photo of local gas here next week and while I'm in Dallas this weekend I'll try to remember to take a photo of gas prices there. have a nice weekend...

I just got back from filling up. I paid $1.39 per gallon. The regular price is $3.59. Giant Eagle Food (NE Ohio, W. PA) gives discounts of 20 cents for every $50 purchase for their Get Go Stations; my savings this time was $2.20 per gallon This is the accumulation of the past months groceries my wife bought. I also used a 5 gallon and two 2 gallon gas cans. So tonight I bought 26 gallons for $36.41, and saved $57.25. With luck and the 3 extra cans I can go a month.

On the Giant Eagle receipt they print your saving for the year. I saved $375.61 for the past year.

I just paid $3.41 a gallon for regular this morning to fill up in Texarkana, Texas - prices range from $3.41 for regular up to $4.13 for plus.

I've just been for a fill and our prices are unbelievable at the moment - everyone is complaining especially as about 2/3 is tax.

We run on Diesel (sorry to be so different). I've just done all the conversions litres to gallons and pounds to US Dollars and we're working out at $8.84 per gallon for diesel. For unleaded it would be roughly $8.10 per gallon!!!!

Can you believe the difference?

Oh, mummymac! I guess I'll quit complaining!

Fuel was $1.50/ litre here this week. I did not fill up. I wait for it to go down to $1.45 - usually on Tuesdays which seems to be the cheapest day to fill up - and get $20 worth. This is the most expensive it's been in ages.

ps I love those full service petrol stations! I'll pay 2c extra/litre just to have someone fill up my car for me any day.

May 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermissmellifluous

Wow. We're paying 123.9 in Alberta and I thought that was high.

You can find my report from Middle Tennessee ($3.45/gal) as well as a link to a site that helps you locate the cheapest gas in your zipcode here:

Can't wait to see if things have changed for anyone else this week! Thanks, Rebecca!

Okay here's a breakdown of the weekend gas prices:
PA (where I live) 3.69 a gallon
NJ (Family Stop A) 3.47 a gallon
NJ (Refuel before entering NYC) 3.58 a gallon
NYC (Family Stop B: NYC and where I refused to refuel) 3.89 a gallon
NJ (Refuel before leaving NJ) 3.49 a gallon

Didn't even look at the PA prices as I zipped past the station on my way to my garage.

I received my first loan when I was very young and that helped me very much. However, I need the college loan again.
