Nothing to Write Home About

Here are a few cliches or sayings with the word “home” in them.

  • Home is where the heart is.
  • There’s no place like home.
  • Bring home the bacon.
  • A man’s home is his castle.
  • You can never go home again.
  • Updates: Kim adds “homey”. As she explains, a homey is “a person who lives and works and stays close to home. I grew up in a college town and the homeys were kids who stayed in town for college and lived at home.”
  • Also from Kim: home boy
  • From Rosemary: Jiggity, jiggity, all the way home. Or as we used to say it, “Home again, home again, jigitty, jig!”
  • Ellen B adds “home body.”
  • Rosemary again: “Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home.”
  • I’m adding to my own list with “Make yourself at home.”
  • Kim again: Mi casa, su casa
  • Home, sweet home,
  • Hearth and home, and
  • Keep the home fires burning.
  • From Janna: Eaten out of house and home.
  • Tanya adds: Home is where you hang your hat.
  • Me again: Home free.
  • And a slew of them from threegirldad: Homeward bound
  • Till the cows come home.
  • The chickens have come home to roost.
  • The lights are on, but nobody’s home.
  • And his personal favorite (naturally): Just wait till your father gets home!

Can you think of others?

Not sure how to spell this but I immediately thought of the word 'homey' as in a person who lives and works and stays close to home. I grew up in a college town and the homeys were kids who stayed in town for college and lived at home.

Jiggity, jiggity, all the way home.

Home is my very favorite place, so I look forward to your series. Sorta makes me miss my little ol' blog where I could chime in...

Along the same lines as homey we use home body for someone who does not like to stray too far from home.
I happened to have a post about "The Home at Peace" this week at this link.

Here's another: Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home!

With three weeks of Spanish instruction under my belt, I'll add 'Mi casa, su casa.' Please excuse the spelling if I've got it wrong!

Also, Home, 'Sweet Home!'

I started to think of a title for my own "home" post and came up with a couple more:

Hearth and Home
Keep the home fires burning.

"Eaten out of house and home" This is from Shakespeare But I think of because of having teens in the home.

till the cows come home

The chickens have come home to roost.

The lights are on, but nobody's home.

And my personal favorite (naturally):

Just wait till your father gets home!

How on earth did I read right past the title of this post?!

I'm glad you noticed eventually! Especially since I hate pointing out other people's mistakes.
