A Catechism for Girls and Boys

Part II: Questions about The Ten Commandments

54. Q. What does the fifth commandment teach us?
        A. To love and obey our parents.

(Click through to read scriptural proof.)

He answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, l‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,” he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God.

Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

Scripture quoted from the English Standard Version.
