Sunday's Hymn

Yet another Sunday with no real hymns sung. (I guess you know how I feel about that!) Fortunately, there is a contingency plan already in place. Yep, when we don’t sing any hymns in the Sunday morning worship service, I post one of my own favorites. Recently, I’ve posted some much-loved hymns from my youth. This is one I love right now.

Jesus, I Am Resting, Resting

Jesus, I am resting, resting,
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,
For by Thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.

Refrain

Jesus, I am resting, resting,
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.

O, how great Thy loving kindness,
Vaster, broader than the sea!
O, how marvelous Thy goodness,
Lavished all on me!
Yes, I rest in Thee, Belovèd,
Know what wealth of grace is Thine,
Know Thy certainty of promise,
And have made it mine.

Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus,
I behold Thee as Thou art,
And Thy love, so pure, so changeless,
Satisfies my heart;
Satisfies its deepest longings,
Meets, supplies its every need,
Compasseth me round with blessings:
Thine is love indeed!

Ever lift Thy face upon me
As I work and wait for Thee;
Resting ’neath Thy smile, Lord Jesus,
Earth’s dark shadows flee.
Brightness of my Father’s glory,
Sunshine of my Father’s face,
Keep me ever trusting, resting,
Fill me with Thy grace.

Gas Up: August 7

Gas, for me, costs the same this week as last.

The cost of Dorothy’s gas went down again—down 4 cents from last week.

What about you? What are you paying for gas in your corner of the universe? Is the price where you live down from last week, too? Give me your report and help me fill up this empty space.

Update, August 8: The gas at my station has already gone down another three cents to $139.9. And from the comments:

John reminds us that the high cost of petroleum has many adverse effects.

Yesterday a farmer told me that he paid around $95.00 an acre this year for his fertilizer; that doesn’t count his fuel. When he bought the land he paid less than $90.00 an acre for it. And when he adds the cost of fuel and fertilizer that he has in each bale of hay it comes to more than the hay is worth!
Janna (who, by the way, is my sister) gives us this report from her town (and my hometown):
3.53 US dollars for a US gallon here in beautiful Bemidji.
threegirldad gives us up-to-the-minute reporting from Kansas, the center of the universe USA, where the price of gas is dropping so fast he can hardly keep up. This morning, he wrote:
It’s dropped from $3.65 to $3.52 since last Friday.
And this afternoon?
Ummm, make that $3.49….
